About Tar Heel Mania

Tar Heel Mania is a blog dedicated exclusively to sports events relevant to Tar Heel fans. It was created by Mike White, a graduate school journalism student in North Carolina. Mike has been a rabid Tar Heel fanatic since the age of eight, introduced to the religion by the likes of Mack Brown, Dean Smith, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Leon Johnson, Brian Simmons, Antawn Jamison, Dante Calabria, Greg Ellis, Chris Keldorf, and many more. His passion only grew when he became a student at Carolina and endured the sporting doldrums of Carl Torbush, John Bunting, and Matt Doherty (all of whom he has neither completely blamed nor completely forgiven).

Now, instead of expressing his love for the Heels through projectile furniture in the genral direction of his TV, he expresses it through this blog. That’s pretty much the reason why he is (and by proxy, you are) here.

    TAR HEEL TIP-OFF 2007-2008: AN ANNUAL GUIDE TO NORTH CAROLINA BASKETBALL

    Nothing reverberates through Tobacco Road quite like college basketball, and TAR HEEL TIP-OFF 2007-2008: An Annual Guide to North Carolina Basketball (Maple Street Press, LLC; September 28, 2007: $14.95) by Adrian Atkinson provides the in-depth analysis and thorough coverage that diehard fans crave. Unlike the national publications that only give you a two-page taste of the Tar Heels, Tip-off provides 112 full-color pages (not ads) devoted solely to Carolina.

    After a promising season that fell short of the lofty goals of the program, Roy Williams has a talented roster that will set the standard in the ACC. Tar Heel Tip-off will bring you up to speed on all the key returnees, with scouting reports and exclusive, never-before-published statistics that can only be found in this publication. Along with pieces from David Glenn, Dave Telep, and Thad Williamson Tip-off also examines topics such as:

    – the value of experience in the ACC, and how it might impact the 2007-08 Heels;
    – the 10 key questions that will determine Carolina’s fate this season;
    – why Roy Williams wins as much as he does (with an emphasis on coaching philosophy, recruiting, and player development);
    – how not to form expectations about the upcoming season, and
    – how to build and maintain an elite program.

    Further, Tip-off will provide a look back at Carolina seasons and heroes of yesteryear—including a 30th anniversary reflection on Phil Ford’s college career and a profile of UNC’s first Final Four team in 1946 (and what it was like being a fan in the pre-ACC era of Carolina hoops).

    Analysis, information, stats, pictures, and history—Tar Heel Tip-off is packed with information that cannot be found anywhere else.

    I just started a college basketball reference site. I list all the standings of major and mid-major conferences. In the standings I link to a blog. Kind of like ESPN.com links to a team page – wanted to know you would like to be a part of that.
