Carolina Football FACT of the Day: 8/8

FACT: Perhaps the best player of UNC history was the late, great Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice, running back and two-time Heisman runner up in the late 1940s. But if you’re reading Tar Heel Mania, you probably knew that. So why is he relevant today? Because he wore the number #22. And we’re just 22 days away from Carolina Football!

He is not yet at the line of scrimmage, but the defense is already vanquished. Photo from Tar Heel Times, when chop blocking was still acceptable.

Thanks for the 8/8/08 Carolina Fact. It’s always great to see pictures of my all-time football hero Charlie Justice, and this particular picture is a classic. It’s a Hugh Morton photograph taken on January 2, 1950 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas…Carolina vs. Rice, the final game of the Justice Era at UNC.

No problem, Jack. It’s always cool to look back at some of the all-time greats.
